Imagine this…
Thanksgiving is one day away and you’ve decided to host this year. Most family members are traveling in so they’ll be staying with you which is no problem… Family takes care of family. Uncle Ted and Aunt Tina are staying in the guest room, mom and dad in the furnished basement, cousins on your couch… But, what about Uncle Chuck and his three kids? Where will they sleep? And, when the rest of the guests arrive where will everyone sit? The dining room isn’t quite big enough to hold everyone, but you’d hate to separate family.
Next year, instead of squeezing people in and finding random places for them to sleep, you may want to consider upgrading to a bigger home.
Here are some of the signs that it’s time for a bigger home:
Frequent Out-Of-Town Guests
The holidays are approaching and you probably will have family and friends coming into town and staying with you. Packing people into your home during the holidays can lead to them being too close for comfort. A bigger home with more bedrooms could allow for more guests to have their own privacy and comfort when they come to visit.
A more spacious kitchen and dining room could also be helpful during the holiday season. Especially, if you’re trying to cook a fabulous Thanksgiving feast but there’s not enough room for every dish. Plus, the less people in the kitchen, the less stressful the cooking process is.
The Repairs are Costly and Never-Ending
If your current smaller home always has something that needs to be fixed, you should break out your calculator and do the math to see if these repairs are financially feasible. You may even find with all the money you’re spending on said repairs is not worth staying put and decide it’s time for a bigger more updated home.
You Have A Growing Family
When your family is growing, a bigger home may be on your mind every day. Know that this is the number one reason most decide to upsize to a bigger home. It’s very common for first-time home buyers to purchase a smaller home to save money. But, when your family begins to expand you may find that your running out of space and this home no longer fits your needs. In this situation it doesn’t always have to mean just children. It’s very possible that you could be adding some pets to your family or have elderly relatives staying with you.
Professional Needs that Have Changed
It’s said that the average family moves almost every six years for many reasons. However, one of the most common reasons is due to work. Maybe your commute is too long and traffic is awful. It may be worth looking at a bigger home that’s closer to work and gives you an advantage for more space.
More Amenities
Oftentimes, smaller homes can lack certain amenities that are frustrating not to have. For example, are people and pets traipsing onto your clean kitchen floors with dirty boots and muddy footprints? A mud room would sure be nice. Bigger homes generally have more of these key amenities to ease any frustrations you may have.
